The Ross Reading Camp: A Legacy of Literacy

Ross Reading Camp (RRC) is a free, one-week summer program hosted by Tennessee Tech where children build confidence and joy as readers through engaging books, hands-on learning, caring mentors, and lots of fun.


Summer 2026 Camp Week:
June 1June 5

The camp is a half-day program that runs Monday, June 1st through Friday, June 5th.

Families may select, based on their childs grade level, either the 1st3rd grade morning session or the 4th6th grade afternoon session.

Daily Schedule

8:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m.

Rising 1st3rd Grade
(students who have completed grades K2)

12:00 p.m. 3:30 p.m.

Rising 4th6th Grade
(students who have completed grades 35)

A typical day for each group includes a community gathering, an interactive read-aloud, small-group book clubs, a literacy mini-lesson, fluency-building activities (such as readers theater), a literacy-connected STEM or art project, movement, independent reading time, and a closing circle. Each session also includes a meal and snack.


Field Trips

As part of the camp experience, we will offer simple, local field trip experiences that highlight reading and learning in action. These may include:

1) Short walks to campus locations such as Memorial Gym, the STEM Center, or nearby green spaces.

2) A trip to Plenty Bookshop for local author visits and readings.

Specific field trip details and permission requests will be shared with families prior to the start of camp.
